Have you ever had a really bad day – you know, the days where the kids and/or boss is feral, you get a parking ticket, dinner becomes world war three, or you are going through cold cabbage leaves like nobody’s business?  (You know what we mean).  There’s always that one mum though, that makes you feel better.  You know who we mean.  The one with the good heart and beautiful mind who reaches out, who helps out, and who looks out.  She inspires you and uplifts you, just by being her.  There’s no drama or gossip and she doesn’t care what your house looks like. You walk away after a catch up feeling positive and energized.  It’s not that her life is in any way perfect – she’s got trials and heartaches like the rest of us, but she’s just one of those genuinely good souls, and that deserves to be celebrated.

We want you to nominate the Mum you know with the Good Heart and Beautiful Mind that deserves this amazing prize.  Tell us why she should win, and if she’s chosen, you’ll win a nominator pack which is stuffed with some of our favourite treats. (Because we’re pretty sure that you’re awesome, too).

***Thank you to everyone who nominated a mum.  This competition has now closed.***

I want to enter my big sister. She has always been a wonderful example of motherhood to me. Has absolutely always put her kids first, and has given and continues to give 110% to her role as mother. She is the kind that whipped up last minute costumes when they forgot to tell her they needed one, helped on the PTA, helps at all the school fundraisers and events, put on parties filled with jelly boats and fairy bread, and never bought new shoes so her kids had what they needed. And of course she is always busy helping those around her too. She is an amazing mum and her kids are lucky to have her.

The wonderful lady I have designated as my work mum Lainey ( Its kinda like a love story, she started out as this terrifyingly strong woman who was a panelist for my interview, she became my boss and gradually became my friend, someone I look up to and seeing her brings me comfort.

Over the last year I have seen her with stress and frustration getting the NZ Contingent of the centenary commemoration for Gallipoli organised. Hardly ever in the same time zone for longer than a month. Yet she still managed to keep a smile on her face and be there when you needed her to be. Lainey is an amazing woman who I aspire to be when I eventually grow up.

My friend Kate is one of the most beautiful people I have ever met. She is always so sweet and kind, always laughing. She has 3 lovely young boys, who are like her, always sweet and kind, a total reflection of her. Even when someone does wrong by her she never has a bad word to say, just ponders as to why they may be the way they are. She would deserve a prize pack just for being so adorably sweet :)

I’d love to nominate my beautiful mum who has just the pension to live on in her cracked uninsured house. I’m sure she hasn’t brought herslf a treat for a few years. You never hear her moaning about anything and she always has a smile on her face. My mum, the best mum I could have picked.

I want to Nominate my friend Pesi for this prize as well. Having just recently become a mum for the first time to a 13 year old boy…she deserves a treat…to not have a chance to bond with a child from infancy and to go straight to the teen years must be daunting…but she’s all smiles, ready for the challenge and in the one week he has been with her and her husband…you would think she has always been his mother. I want her first ever mothers day to be special…something to say welcome to motherhood…and welcome to having your bank account sucked dry by the little darling angel that now graces her home…hehe. Love you Pesi!

This is my little sister hands down. She is one of those people that will try and give you her raincoat in the pouring rain. She has a really soft heart and works in the back ground to make sure everyone is happy – always thinking of herself last. People warm to her very quickly cause she makes them feel really comfortable. And even though she is the youngest if four kids, she tries to mother her older siblings, all her nieces and nephews as well as her own kids. She loves it and we’d love her to have a little something extra on Mothers Day.

I’d like to nominate a good friend of ours, Lee, for this prize. Lee has been such a supportive friend to our new little family. Lee is so thoughtful and generous making sure we had all those essential items for me and my new baby at the hospital and home, bringing us snacks and meals and just generally making sure we had everything we needed to function as a new family. We are especially grateful as we know Lee is busy with her little family of her own. Doing a great job might I add… Love those kids, so easy going, polite, thoughtful and creative. (I wonder where they get that from? :)) Lee, you totally deserve this prize!

I nominate my sneaky raskally friend Danelle who is ALWAYS thinking of ways to support her family and friends. Like the time she booked a night away for hubby and I when I was 8 months pregnant with number 2 and baby sat number 1. Or the time a friend of ours lost her husband and had 2 young twins – Danelle organised a fundraiser so our friend could put the twins in daycare twice a week for a break. The list goes on! She’s an amazing friend and mother of 2 littlies. You rock Danny Zuko!

I’m nominating my bud Julie Morley. She is friendly, so kind, a crazy fun friend, FUNNY AS, random as, with an honestly beautiful spirit, loving wife and mum, would do anything for you if she was able, easy to talk to and hang with and did I mention FUN??!! She is so cool and I’m thankful for her friendship!! You rule bud xox

I’d like to nominate my friend Vanessa. She has her own business while being a fab Mum to 2 great kids. She always manages to look great while running children to activities and school and now that I have moved cities she organises to come visit me for the day once a year so we can catch up.

Would like to nominate one of my crew (have a amazing cycle of friends who help me as a single mother) Steph. She is always willing to help. When I was sick and couldn’t look after myself she was on hand to bring me live saving ice blocks. Even with three kids of her own having mine is never a problem. Id be lost with out her, a true friend!

My sister Fionna Prout. She always reminds me that I am doing a great job as a Mum, and I can always call her to talk if I’m feeling low. She would always go out of her way to help her friends and family in times of need, she certainly has a wonderful heart.

My other BFF Gertrude is one amazing woman! She is so intelligent that I often wonder how I manage to even hold a conversation with her without her falling asleep or cracking up at something completely ridiculous I’ve said. She ALWAYS knows what to say when I’m having problems… Even if it’s the harsh truth. She has THE biggest heart and truly treasures the relationships she has. She was ALWAYS there when I had boy troubles… Even when it was the same troubles over and over and over again. She has been there for me through several failed engagements, a divorce and 2 marriages! She has been there with advice, support, treats and home-cooked meals through my 3 pregnancies. She accepts me with ALL my faults and forgetfulness. She is an exceptional Mum and friend and she deserves all these treats and more xo

I nominate my friend, Awhina, who is the strongest, most inspirational mother I know. There are some significant challenges in her family life. She and her husband have 2 children, and another little squish on the way. Her little daughter, Ramari, was born with congenital Cytomegalovirus (cCMV), a virus which attacks the developing baby inside the womb. This affects Ramari’s physical and neurological development, and causes seizures. Each week, there are a zillion appointments to attend, medications to trial, and therapies to apply at home, all of which are juggled with Awhina’s work commitments, her son’s needs and regular family time. When Ramari becomes ill, such as after seizures, her progress is arrested for a period of time. It must sometimes feel like a case of one step forward and two steps back. AND YET: despite circumstances that would wear my soul to bone, Awhina shows GRACE and STRENGTH, and a positive attitude to the world. Her children are HAPPY, filled with joy. In fact, when I think of Awhina, I think of joy – a beautiful, beaming smile, an inner strength, and a determination to make every day count; to find the good and the joy in every day. There is no-one who better fits the description GOOD HEART, BEAUTIFUL MIND.

Nominating Jay Lou as this is her first mothers day. She has recently given birth to her first child and had a rough recovery which has included two hospital admissions and a suggestion of surgery after a c section! She is growing into an amazing mother for her little one and does an amazing job despite all the obstacles, she always makes sure those around her are looked after and does all things with love that is why she is so special. Thanks for the chance to spoil her. If I was to win I would also gift the nominator pack to my Mother as she is pretty special.

I would like to nominate my friend Demelza Shaw. She is a stay at home mum with four children under 10 and a husband who is away for work a lot. She always has a smile on her face and is so supportive of her friends and other families without ever putting herself first, even though I know it’s hard for her and she hardly ever gets a break. It’s her birthday on Mothers Day and it would be amazing if she could win this prize and feel really special. I am truly blessed to have her in my life xx

I want to nominate my good friend Karen McMahon. This young mum has somehow become part of my family & we adore her. She’s a solo mum to an amazing, bright 2 yo boy & she’s doing a fantastic job. She has put her life on hold to dedicate her time & love to her son but she dreams of having someone to share her love with. She’s doing it hard, like most others, but she is kind & generous and has the biggest heart ESPECIALLY when it comes to animals. She will go without to make sure her son & pets have everything. I just want her to have some nice pretty (new) things just for herself :) she’s also constantly looking for ways to build a better future for her & her son & we are so very lucky to have her in our lives x

I am a proud Mum of a very deserving solo parent. My daughter’s partner and father of her two children took off unnanounced back to England, leaving her saddled with the mortgage and his debts. She could have just sat down and cried (and i am sure she did) and not got back up, BUT, realising she had to be strong for her children she set about putting bills in her name, applying for jobs, and making sure that my grandchildren were emotionally okay whilst they learnt to adjust to their new life. My daughter was lucky enough to be offered the first job she applied for, and she has gone from strength to strength. The only downside is that she no longer has an opportunity to treat herself. Absolutely all she earns goes either on bills, mortgage payments, and the children. To her credit you will never hear her moan – but as her mother it absolutely breaks my heart.

I would like to nominate Angela Linfield for this prize.. I meet Ange almost six years ago at a local mainly music. She’s one of those people that you are just naturally drawn too.

Ange had her two girls with her and was pregnant with her littlest fella nathan. She also had another baby who she was looking after. Week after week I meet this lovely lady and as we got to kmow each other I was struck by the beautiful calm way she spoke to her children, always so full of expression and interested.

Most days she looks after an extra two or three children, which she juggles with university study and caring for her own children and household. Despite her busy schedule she is the first person to put her hand up to help someone else, whether it be another mum in a pickle, fundraising for kindy or school or a child in need.

She always has a smile and a friendly greeting and is one of the first people I go to for parenting advice, she just seems to be able to look at things from all angles and offer well thought out advice.

Money is not something that Ange takes for granted and I’d bet my bottom dollar that she hasn’t had a treat just for her for many years. If you choose Ange then I would be delighted if you could give my nominator pack to another of the inspirational mums nominated on here.

My sis in law, she is one truely special person. She has two young toddlers of her own, but is always there helping us out with my son. My husband works full time & long hours, and I have a chronic medical condition which means I spend/ have frequent hospitizations. When this happens she’s always there to lend a hand, cook meals for hubby, or taking our son for a few days. Very selfless. I could never repay her or thank her enough for what she does

I am honoured to nominate my sister in law. She has been a single parent from day dot and has done everything in her power to be the best damn mother she can. She suffered from post natal depression following her daughter’s birth but sought help and came through, emerging as an extemely strong, determind woman. She has recently returned to work to better support herself and her daughter, and i am proud of her. Her daughter is her life, she goes without in order that my niece has a great life. People like her don’t often get recognition, they don’t seek it, they don’t stand out, but they sure as hell deserve it.

I nominate my good friend Natasha Paul. She has two beautiful boys (10 & 7) and an angel baby(who would be 5). She is always going above and beyond for everyone else, helping out where needed and never stops for herself.
She is always encouraging her boys to follow dreams, aim for the sky and develop their own personalities.
She is not only my neighbour but a very good friend who is one in a million friends to me. I’m due 12th May to have second child, and Tarsh is the first friend who always puts her hand up to help with our first child in those first few weeks. My son adores (Aunty Tarsh) and her family.

I nominate Raiven Trainor. This wāhine Māori is an inspiration to me – single mother of two children, working hard for her family and studying towards her qualifications. She is always strong in the face of adversity and somehow still finds the time to be kind, supportive and considerate towards the people around her. I don’t know how she does it!! She so deserves to win in this category and to receive something in return for her constant selflessness.

I’d like to nominate my mother in law Pauline. She is absolutely amazing, she is so kind & generous to everyone she meets. She goes out of her way to help others in need. She took me & my family into her home so that we could try & get a head start & pay off our bills. She is one of the most lovely people you will ever meet, she always makes sure all her children are ok & calls them frequently to see if they need anything. She lost her oldest son in an accident quite a few years ago so I feel for her during Mother’s Day as there’s always that one little piece of her heart that is missing her baby. I would love to be able to give her a wonderful little gift like this to show her how much I love & appreciate her & I am inspired everyday by her.

I’m nominating my sister, Hayley Grace. I don’t know of anyone who has done it tougher than her. She had eight kids, four of them teenagers to get first husband who died, then four school age kIds to her second husband who abandoned them all eighteen months ago. Her children are a testament to her amazing parenting, toughness and determination. She lives in a small town, has no support and is far from family as she waits for her house to sell. She really could do with a mother’s day boost. Please pick Hayley!
