Mama told you there would be days like these…but she didn’t tell you that sometimes you wouldn’t even get to shower at the end of them!  (Seriously, can someone go ahead and make greasy hair en vogue this season? Thanks.)  The odd day is easy to handle, but sometimes those tough days can merge together for a really long time.  We all know Mums that have been thrown a curveball or three.  Life can be good, and you can wear a smile, but that doesn’t mean it’s not hard.  Kids can be crazy, money can be tight, breakups can happen, health can disappear, loved ones can be lost, and jobs can be tough.  And yet, they pick themselves up every day and do what they have to do for their family, because they are strong.  And if that means skipping a shower, then they’ll do that, too.  This prize is for the mum you know who is doing it a little tougher than most, to treat herself, because you know she deserves it.

***Thank you to everyone who nominated a mum.  This competition has now closed.***

We want you to nominate the Mum you know with the Good Heart and Beautiful Mind that deserves this amazing prize.  Tell us why she should win, and if she’s chosen, you’ll win one a nominator pack, stuffed with some of our favourite treats.  (Because we’re pretty sure that you’re awesome, too).

My sister found out she was pregnant with her 2nd child…. Excitement all round. 20 wks she found out she was having a healthy girl… Super excited as she already has a 2yr old boy!! 23 weeks she found out her week girl has 22q deletion syndrome and her world feels like its crumbling around her. 22nd June her precious girl is due. We already know she has a couple of heart defects and will have to have surgery soon after being born, but the rest is unknown at this point. My sister has had some serious ups and downs over the last few months. Winning this prize cannot change her future, but i know it would make her day.

I’m entering my friend Julie…hard to believe we are mums together now and we have been friends since primary school! She has 3 boys very close together in age, and I know being a stay at home mum some days can feel crazy…but she is a wonderful mother and a beautiful person. Never has anything bad to say, is always there for you, and brings chocolate when most needed!! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE her to have this treat for herself

I nominate my friend Pippa who has been having a very hard time lately. Her only sister has just had a masectomy and started chemo for Breast cancer. On top of this Pippa currently has awful problems with her house and drainage, and there’s an aggressive pitbull that lives in her road which keeps escaping and coming to her home to terrify her chickens and children! Yet she is a wonderful super mum to her gorgeous two kids, and has been there for me while I’ve needed help and support over the last few months. You deserve a break lovely Pippa xxx

Mamma told me to pack away my eeling gear after every trip out. One night i left it on the back door to the laundry, the next morning heading to the washing line she slipped on the eel bag and snaped her
Mamma told me to always brush my teeth and lay off the lollies. 29 years later i have a mouth full of metal and missing 5 teeth.
Mamma told me to always dive with a buddy. The only time i go out by myself my necklace hooks around a weed fastened to the reef and i nearly drown.
Mamma told me to marry a woman with dirt under her fingernails. I did, now i am married to the most loving, hard working woman on the planet.
Moral of the story… mummy tells you…. LISTEN!!

My mum does have a good heart and and a beautiful mind! She deserves the absolute best, so amazingly thoughtful and special and has made so many sacrifices for my brother and I. She gave up her job 14 years ago, so that she could look after and be their for us kids, and so that her husband could keep working. Ever since, she has been doing jobs that do not particularly suit her, where she is not reaching her full potential, but finally after all this time, she is following her dreams, and I am so proud of her, because she is setting such an amazing example to my brother and I that we can do or become whatever we want, no dream is too big. This is what my mamma told me, and I am so so very grateful for having her as my mother, and best friend. Love you mum xxx

Mum She left our violent father, he raped her, we have been trying to get on our feet every since its only now we are starting to get out of debt. Mum doesn’t eat so we can. She goes cold for us, she walks for us, her clothes are tatty, her bedding torn but she loves us and will do anything for us.

  8. Anita E

    May 8, 2015 at 8:23 pm

Could i please nominate my neighbour. T moved in next door just over a year ago, she was escaping from a violent ex partner and starting anew. Aside from help from Women’s Refuge she came with barely anything, and no support – her family all sided with her ex. She settled her 5 children in, and enrolled in an Early Childhood degree. Having dropped out of school at 15 it was a brave move to make. With life looking like it was all going well she did not expect her ex to attempt to get custody of the children, being that he had shown little interest in them at all. Although there was little chance of him winning custody the stress and time off to talk to legal people meant she had to take time out from her studies. When this had passed (and she had full custody) and life started trotting onwards and upwards again her youngest collapsed at school and was diagnosed with diabetes. Again studies were put on hold as she and her son learnt how to manage his condition. With all this going on one could understand if she just gave it all up, but, no she is determind to become a qualified teacher and as well as improve the life of her family, hopefully make a difference to other children. T is very modest and private but very deserving.

I’d like to nominate my sister Raquel for this award. She is a mother to my 7-year old nephew and they’ve been trying to have a second child for the last 3 years. She has some problems with her reproductive system and can’t go on the IVF waiting list until her body gets sorted. My heart bleeds for her every time she sees one of our friends get pregnant. She is such a wonderful mum and having a second child would be a blessing for her. Getting a pamper pack from MoT would help make her feel better this Mother’s Day

We nominate our mum Naomi because she has been there for us ever since we could laugh or cry she always make our lunchs and she is always encourageing us to do lots of great things like dancing and auction for shows, she always makes sure her 9yr old daughter & 12yr old son have the life we deserve and she is good to her husband .

  12. Chey Parlato

    May 8, 2015 at 1:24 pm

I nominate Sophia Parlato, she is my mum. All mothers are specially in there own way but I feel that my mum has done more for her children and grandchildren than she does for herself. She has given up a lot so that her children can have every opportunity that they can have. I currently live overseas and she sends me care packages every few months and though I send money home she pays for it all herself. My baby sister is also living abroad on a study program and my mum helps her out financially and makes sure that she is getting the most out of her time in Brazil. She has also raised her grandson and works full-time. I love her to the moon and back and for all that she has done for us kids and her grandson, I feel that no matter what we do for her we can never repay her for all that she has done. There are no limits to what she will do for her children and grandchildren xoxoxo

My sister in law is pregnant with her fifth child and she still hasn’t named one after me. If she knew I won a prize for her…it might give me the advantage if it’s a girl.. She definitely deserves to be pampered….cause she has sons…they don’t know what it means to pamper someone and her little daughter…is just coming out of pampers. But in all seriousness…she deserves a treat…she’s always looking after my kids, as well as doing her day to errands and duties…she hardly has time for herself….Happy Mother’s Day Fleur.

My mother-in-law always give 120% in everything she does. She has been working as a high school teacher for some time and now wants a bit of a change. She is finding everything (leaving her school and making the change) a little difficult. She is an amazing Mum and i’m glad my wife grew up with her as an example.

I nominate my beautiful friend Doreen who gave birth to an angel baby in February and this will be her first Mother’s Day…..Even whilst she deals with the hardest thing that can ever happen to a mother, she is STILL busy worry about everyone else and making sure her family and friends are happy. She is an inspiration and there’s noone with a nicer heart who is more deserving of a piece of happiness xxx

I nominate my Grandmother Pamela, she is one of the strongest people I know, and I aspire to be as GORGEOUS as her when I’m in my eighties. Grandma has had lots of struggles in the last two years, but she keeps getting back up, it never ceases to amaze me how she bounces back from her trials. She is a spiritual women who has raised 6 amazing, strong children who are so special and talented, without her having such awesome kids, I wouldn’t be here. I admire and love Grandma a lot. She deserves something that will make her smile, her smile is beautiful, SHE is beautiful.

I’ll like to nominate my Mother because she always listens. If I’m mad at anything I can just call her and tell her what’s on my mind and then feel so much better because it’s not bottled up anymore and I know she won’t judge me. Everyone needs a great sounding board.

  22. Tarryn Holliday

    May 7, 2015 at 6:31 pm

My mother, Michelle Wells totally deserves this! As far back as I can remember she has been my best friend, encourager, protector, provider, biggest cheerleader, most beautiful example and by far the most selfless person I know! Everybody always comes first and she doesn’t even give it a second thought! Not only is she the best mum, but she is also the best granny! She is a second mother to my daughter and where she has missed out on having two parents, she is blessed to have two mums because of her wonderful Granny!
I’d also like to add that she is not just a mother to my siblings and I, she loves children who are not her own as if they were, including taking in and LOVING and fighting for not one but two orphaned, HIV positive children when we lived in South Africa. She provided them with motherly love and a life they would not have known if it weren’t for her, she then heartbreakingly handed them over to new families where they now live a life of privilege and the love and happiness they deserve! She did that! My mother is not just my mom, she is my hero and the most beautiful example of all the characteristics of an honourable and strong woman! I love you Mamma! Even if you don’t win, you are still my winner! Xxx

I nominate my mum Ali Copeman, she is away working and I would like to surprise her when she gets back. She has taught me everything I know from tying my shoe lace to teaching me to deal with bullying. She is also one of my greatest inspirations and I hope that I’ll be like her someday and she helps me with my sport and has taught me everything I know about tennis and now I’m a rep. She has the kindest heart especially when she took time off work to stay with me in hospital for a week. I love my mum too the moon and back and then again etc, so I recon she deserves this pack.

I’d like to nominate my beautiful friend Samantha, who is raising 3 amazing sons, one of whom has very high needs. She is doing it extra hard right now; she lives in an isolated place away from extended family and friends because the housing is more affordable but this makes getting respite for her special needs child really hard. Her kids don’t go without, she provides them with so much love, and all the necessities of life, but boy would I love to see her win some lovely treats for HERSELF. I appreciate this opportunity to nominate a phenomenal woman. xo

  27. Catherine

    May 7, 2015 at 5:42 pm

My sister in law Jenna is a special lady and an amazing mum to Liam and Keira. About ten years ago she was in an accident which has left her with chronic back pain and some days she struggles even to get out of bed. Despite this she constantly puts the needs of the kids first. Money is tight but she is a miracle worker, digging to find the special things they need – not only is she an amazing bargain hunter, but she finds the things that are just right for that special party, school event (you should have seen Keira’s outfit for the school social) or family get together.

Jenna doesn’t like to ask for help and a lot of the time she doesn’t let on how much of a struggle daily life can be. Everything in this special prize would be so amazing and really make Jenna’s day. I can’t imagine a better recipient.

i nominate my mother Michelle Wells. Not only is she my mother but my best friend. She is the matriarch of our family- always at the rescue, always giving sound advice and always there for each one of her kids and grandkids. She is MOST deserving of a treat this Mother’s Day. Please pick her!

I nominate my mother MICHELLE WELLS! She is the most selfless woman i know! She puts her Grandchildren and her childrens needs in front of her own. I dont know where I would be without her help especially with my own 2 beautiful children! She has been through some very trying and hard times the past few years and if anyone deserves this it is my mother! You mean the world to me and my little family! love you stacks mum!

I nominate my sister in law Lucy. She deserves some special treatment.

My cousin Kathleen has had an extremely difficult start to the year. Her mother was diagnosed with terminal Ovarian Cancer on New Year’s Eve, and passed away only a few months later on April 3rd. Kathleen and her Mum had an extremely close relationship, and her mother helped raise her two young boys. She is now trying to adjust to life without her Mum.

I admire, love and aspire to BE like on of my two best friends Arlena Stevens. She thought her family was complete after having 2 handsome boys. However, a surprise 3rd boy… and then a super unexpected girl later she assures me she is well and truly done ;-) Her house is AAAAALWAYS immaculate (i’m talking lick the kitchen floor clean), her kids are always clean and well-dressed, and she has dinner cooked by 5pm each night! I’m actually wondering if she took off her glasses if she would actually turn out to be Superwoman! ;-) She doesn’t really wear glasses… but still… I know how hard it is to just keep my kids clean… let alone the rest! She is super organised, but I know that it must still take a huge toll on her as a person (if she even has any time to remember that she IS a person) and that she sacrifices a LOT for her family. Her new baby girl also has reflux which is driving her nuts so it would be sooooooo lovely for her to receive such a well-deserved gift.

I nominate my Mum Savaii Ho Kum. Her whole life she ploughed through motherhood without any indication she was struggling from all corners of her home. She did not have the most fabulous relationship with her mother so when she had us six kids she grasp hold of each one of us and made us her life. She looked up to the example of her older siblings for guidance and help when things got tough and on many occasions things were tough, finances were tight, time to juggle six kids while dad was working two jobs she sacrificed all her time to give us stability. She put her life aside so we had what she didn’t have. And to this day even though were all grown up, married with kids she still puts us kids before her own needs. She is amazing in every way and all she requires is acknowledgement of her time and sacrifice. Compliments and positive reinforcements which just makes her eyes light up. She is the perfect example to me of getting on with life the best way you know how especially when everything else is trying to pull you down. She is the living drive of our family.

  34. Quentin Daniels

    May 6, 2015 at 3:52 pm

I want to nominate my beautiful wife Rebecca Daniels. The past week has been a very tough week as our whole household have been sick – including Rebecca. Regardless of her own sickness and afflictions she’s put everyone else first. She’s attended to baby at all hours of the night just so her husband can sleep. She’s gone out and taking care of all the tasks and responsibilities that needed to be attended to – most times never having the chance to brush her teeth, shower, or even getting out of her pj’s. Her selflessness, altruistic, and caring attitude is definitely worthy of such a gift this Mother’s Day.

My mother! A world of wisdom but in that good kind of way where she’s always there for advice, but doesn’t smother you with her views and will let you find your own path. My first point of call when life dramas hit!

    May 5, 2015 at 11:30 am

I nominate my lil sister Stace Bath. she has suffered severe back pain for the last 3years. Due to her xray being misdiagnosed, shes had to suffer. But upon changing her GP, he looked at her xray and saw that she has a fractured vertebrae. He immediately sent her to a specialist and she has her long awaited surgery next week. But even thru all the pain she still manages tobe a mum to 3 kids and hold down a part time job. Shes amazing.

  39. Rachel

    May 5, 2015 at 6:41 am

I nominate Emma Streeter. Emma had a journey to getting pregnant that involved some extra special support. Following this, Emma had a high risk pregnancy and at a couple of days post birth, found that her little super hero, had a serious heart problem. Emma’s little boy had major heart surgery at only a few days old. Lots of time away from her home town, meant that support for her and her precious family was limited. Yet, Emma, bubby and family, overcame all of the obstacles. Emma’s little boy has recently celebrated a HUGE milestone having turned 1! This year has seen so many challenges with multiple admissions and illnesses. Emma has taken all of these in her stride, and has a gorgeous little man developing well! Emma is an amazing mummy who does a phenomenal job for both of her beautiful little children. Ontop of this, Emma has returned to work as a children’s nurse – helping out other kids. There have been times when I am sure Emma would rather be at home with her own family, yet with a smile she helps these other families. Emma is a super woman all round and really deserves a little treat to acknowlede everything!

I nominate my friend Tracey. She has a busy 3.5 year old boy and is pregnant with a little girl after loosing a little girl at 4 months old. Loosing a baby is heart breaking, she is so strong to have come this far especially since this pregnancy has not been stress free.

My sis in law, she is one truely special person. She has two young toddlers of her own, but is always there helping us out with my son. My husband works full time & long hours, and I have a chronic medical condition which means I spend/ have frequent hospitizations. When this happens she’s always there to lend a hand, cook meals for hubby, or taking our son for a few days. Very selfless. I could never repay her or thank her enough for what she does

I am extremely honoured to nominate my sister in law. She has been a single parent from day dot and has done everything in her power to be the best damn mother she can. She suffered from post natal depression following her daughter’s birth but sought help and came through, emerging as an extemely strong, determind woman. She has recently returned to work to better support herself and her daughter, and i am proud of her. Her daughter is her life, she goes without in order that my niece has a great life. People like her don’t often get recognition, they don’t seek it, they don’t stand out, but they sure as hell deserve it.

I’d like to nominate my wife and mother of our 2 young, bright and active kids aged 2 & 4. She’s a dedicated mother no matter what else she has to juggle and recently she’s had a lot more to hold together. She went from being a career girl to now being off work due to chronic illness. As she continues to get worse health wise she’s remained consistently upbeat for the kids despite her pain and personal challenges. Her days are hard and she could do with a pick me up.

I would like to nominate my special antenatal friend Jess Murdoch. Shes had an extremly rough 2 years. We met at Antenatal, her side of the family wernt able to support her as they lived down South and have their own major health issues her in-laws also have had their own fair share of health problems. She just keeps going and going…no matter what trying to provide a good healthy life for their gorgeous daughter. Shes had her own fair share of health problems lately too so I want her to feel a little pampered.

I would like to nominate my neighbour Kristen. She is a single mum with a very active 5 year old boy. He is ALWAYS on the go. She never has a night off, never has any time for herself. For the past 5 years she has never even gotten a Christmas present! She buys any gifts well in advance for her boy (op shop, white elephant stalls at school gala’s etc.) She doesn’t have much cash so has to try and make a little go a long way. Seeing as she has no cash to spare she never gets gifts for herself. And the final straw is her mum is dead. It’s been hard for her to raise her boy all alone without any help.

I’m nominating my high school best friend, Dee. Life doesn’t always turn out the way you expect, and she is now a single mum of 3. I have been amazed and inspired at the way she has picked herself up, and forged ahead with her goals, with very little support around her. Instead of feeling sorry for herself she has challenged herself in so many ways, going ahead with marathons and triathlons (!!), volunteer work, a thesis, her work as an early childhood educator, and of course being an amazing mum. She sacrifices living close to her family so that her children can still see their dad. I would have sat around moping, but she has made the conscious decision to focus on becoming the best person and mother she can, and is doing incredible things that inspire a whole lot of us. I would absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE if I could tell her that she has these amazing treats coming her way, she absolutely deserves them.

I would like to nominate my friend who has two gorgeous kids. Her youngest has just started school and she is always on the go (including the school board!) despite suffering serious health problems.
We are all hoping she has at least one more mothers day and I’d love to make this one extra special for her.

I would like to nominate my sister Bronwyn. Our gorgeous most amazing kind hearted and strong inspirational mother passed away suddenly 7 weeks ago. Mum was a big help and caregiver to my sister Bron. Mum and dad looked after Michael (4yrs old) from soon after birth as my sister had to return to work for financial reasons. We all miss mum so terribly much but I know my sister Bronwyn is finding it particularly hard as she is dealing with wee Michael asking for Nanny back as well as trying to cope with her own grief, juggling new child care options and working full time. Bron doesn’t buy special things for herself so I think this would be a huge treat.

I’d like to nominate my sister Malia, she is such a hard working mum, she has 3 young boys the youngest is 6 months & the other 2 are quite a handful. She has had a run of bad luck recently but she has pushed herself forward & is doing the best she can. She had to go back to work quickly after giving birth so they could pay bills. Her husband is very busy so she tends to have to look after the boys by herself a lot which can be very stressful, so she doesn’t really get anytime for herself. I’d love to give her a little gift to give her the motivation to keep going & to show her what an amazing job she’s doing with her kids.

I want to nominate my friend Gem who has tackled some shitty health troubles with grace while continuing to raise her awesome, kickass daughter to be sassy and tough. She deserves to be treated because she’s an incredible woman!

I nominate Jo McSweeny, my mum. She has been my biggest supporter since before I even can recall. She’s been there for me through scrapped knees, through break ups and the birth of my own son. She was my rock through it all. After bringing up four children from a young age and following her dream career she has shown me that anything is possible if you try hard enough. There are no limits to what life can hold. I love you with al my heart xoxo
