Hello Summer

Do you remember those blissful pre-kid summers?  Your biggest concerns were how to fit 6 of you into your mate’s Ford Laser, and scrounging together enough change for petrol to get to the beach and a feed of fish and chips.  Your essentials list was pared down to a towel and a bikini, and maybe a bit of coconut oil.

Summer is slightly different these days.  There are people to feed and kids to entertain, and your idea of a good time is a lot more book than it is beach party.  (Don’t worry, we still think you’re cool).  That’s why we know you will love to laze away a few hours on your beautiful Recline Turkish Beach Towel, (after applying your Neutrogena Beach Defence sunscreen, of course.  Your days of frying with coconut oil are over!).  In between naps you can dive in between the pages of your new summer reads, Tell You What and If I should Die.  Eventually there will be murmurings about food, but not to worry, whipping up the perfect summer barbie will be a breeze thanks to Jamie Oliver’s Food Tube BBQ Book, and your gorgeous gift pack of Borges olive oil.  For delicious summer desserts OOB has got you covered with a range of premium berries and ice-cream.

And while your teenage summers were fun, your tastes have evolved somewhat from the Tearaway and Dolly posters, which is why you will fall in love with your very own piece titled “Piwakawaka” by New Zealand artist Jeremy Shirley.  It will make a stunning addition to your home – the only problem is deciding where to best show it off.

Of course nothing says Summer like an outdoors concert, and when it’s a winery with kiwi artists, you know it’s time to call the baby sitter.  Grab your partner, your bestie, or your sister and head along to the The Winery Tour for a summer night to remember.  Actually, you can grab them all because we’ll be sending 4 tickets your way.  (You might even all fit into the Laser).

This competition has now closed.  Thank you for entering.

Maybe I’m odd, but I love summers post children so much more… the best excuse to take the summer off work to cover the school holidays, multiple trips to the beach to indulge in swimming, sandcastles and general frivolity covered in sand and not caring what you look like, evening picnics at the park, bike rides, camping in the back yard (for all of three hours), and icecreams, any time of day, just because it’s hot…

Ahhh pre-kids summers; when you could actually lie down on the sand and shut your eyes without the worry of drowning children, lost children or children body-slamming you whilst covered from head to toe in sand. When sandwiches weren’t filled with sand from tornado children tearing through the beach tent looking for a spade – and when you could just pop down to the beach and into the water without a suitcase full of gear and baby accessories. Ahh pre-kids summers, those were the days.
