When Real Live Mum Rebecca was asked what aspect of motherhood has surprised her the most, her answer was simple.  “The obsession”.  And with a completely gorgeous 11 month old to run around after, it’s easy to see why.  “Looking back on the last year, it’s hard to pin point what the best thing about it has been.  Children add such a depth of joy to your life that you can’t comprehend until you have one of your own!”.

Prior to becoming a mum, Rebecca worked as a program co-ordinator for a technology company, and had also graduated with a degree in politics and international relations.  Her focus during her degree on community development led to an opportunity work with a team in India for several months.  “We stayed in very isolated villages and focused on improving basic health care, education, and trying to develop some sustainable income opportunities for the people, along with some advocacy work with the local government”.  Rebecca says the experience changed her immensely.  “It was both the hardest thing I’ve ever done, and the best thing I’ve ever done.  It changed the way I look at the world, and the way I look at my own situation”.

Rebecca has decided not to return to paid work, as she is loving being a stay at home mum.  “I did always plan to be a stay at home mum, but it definitely hasn’t been as smooth sailing as I thought it would be.  But despite the challenges, it is definitely where I want to be”.

Read on to discover Rebecca’s take on rules, her guilty food pleasure, and some pretty sage advice.  Thanks, Rebecca!

What makes you a Mum? My perfect son Archer Manuirirangi Daniels.

Describe where you are right now. Sitting on the couch with my feet up.

Use five words to describe your family. Crazy, wonderful, blessed, noisy, happy.

What is one thing nobody knows about you? I have a degree in politics and international relations, I used to want to be the prime minister – but I decided to set my sights higher and became a stay at home mum instead.

What’s the hardest thing about being a mum? Losing your pre-child body (vain I know).

What is your most treasured item? My engagement ring.

What aspect of motherhood has surprised you the most? The obsession. (If you’re a mum you’ll know what I’m talking about!)

When was the last time you broke a rule? Adults have rules? Lol

What is your best piece of advice? Look after yourself, because if you don’t take care of yourself how are you gonna take care of everyone else?

What did you vow never to do as a parent, that has totally gone out the window? Giving my child treats – I love watching him experience new things….especially delicious things.

What’s your #1 go-to “I’m shattered and I have to feed people” meal solution? Maggi sachet butter chicken – my one processed food guilty pleasure.

Five minutes ago I was…At the pools with my son.

Five minutes from now I will be….Planning next weeks activities and meals. (I’m a serial list maker/planner).
