What makes you a Mum? The significant, unwieldy portion of my head-space that is now occupied by my daughter: where she is, whether she’s happy, whether she’s healthy, where her last intact sippy cup could possibly have got to …
Describe where you are right now. Sitting at my desk, (ahem) ‘working’, in between drafting a blog post or two (I co-blog at daisyandzelda.com). I’m a freelance print editor – get in touch if you need any help with that e-book you’re planning on self-publishing!
Describe the last dream you remember having. I was at home in New Zealand, indulging in all the proper (Summer!) Christmas rituals: a swim in the sea, a long boozy Christmas lunch, enjoying Christmas pudding in the sunshine … The reality is that we’ll be here in Hungary with my husband’s family for Christmas. But the good news is that my sister will be with us, and they’re forecasting snow!
Use five words to describe your family. Beautiful, hilarious, beloved. My universe.
What is your most treasured item? See my answer above.
What is one thing nobody knows about you? I played with dolls long past the time all my peers were playing with them. My best friend and I used to bring our My Child dolls to school and smuggle them out to the back of the field to play with in secret! Maybe that’s why I’m such a good mummy now?!
When was the last time you broke a rule? A couple of days ago I told myself I would have no more than three cups of coffee a day. I broke that rule within a day of making the resolution. Oh well – I recently read a fantastic article (http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2012/11/the-case-for-drinking-as-much-coffee-as-you-like/265693/) about how it’s actually not that bad for you at all, so I’m not feeling too guilty.
What is your best piece of advice? Trust your gut. I feel like motherhood has taught me the importance of that pretty thoroughly.
When was the last time you forgot something important? Ha! The answer to that question is new every day. Yesterday, we went out for a walk. I locked the house but left the key in the door. They should warn you that baby brain lasts well into toddlerhood!
What’s your #1 go-to “I’m shattered and I have to feed people” meal solution? Macaroni cheese, every time.
Five minutes ago I was working, boringly enough. five minutes from now I will be brewing that fourth cup of coffee.
