Put This On Your To Do List: My Family Food Bag – Review #1

My Family Food BagTake one family of five, with three boys under five, and the thought of having your dinners planned and ingredients delivered is nothing short of heavenly. It truly was like Christmas had come again when the courier visited our home at 8pm on Sunday night – one of our ratbags was still awake and greeted him at the door, ‘Mummm there’s a man here with food for us!’ He proceeded to show the courier through to the kitchen where he picked out the baby carrots. ‘Oooooooh mum! Are these to feed to the horses? What are these green bits?’ Finally, cue mother-guilt. My four year old son had never seen a baby carrot with the ‘green bits’ still on. Bless.
After trying to find places for all the delicious produce and fresh meat, I sat down with the menu cards and was rather sceptical. Salads, salads in wraps and salads in rice paper… are my kids just not going to eat for three nights?! Salads?! My kids don’t eat salad. Do yours?

Night #1 – Fish Tacos.
The kids got right into the preparation of this meal. They helped slice the avocado and mango for the salad and proceeded to construct their fish tacos with a dressing of their choice as directed by the recipe – tomato sauce. They are kiwi kids after all…

Night #2 – Mini Beef Sliders.
Deeeelish! That bread. I could eat that for dinner on its own. Nice job Paneton. We added A LOT of seasoning to the patties, but they were absolutely delicious. Dad wasn’t home for dinner so there were plenty of left overs – the kids enjoyed them the following night and mum enjoyed not having to do a thing but re-heat and re-plate!

Night #3 – Chicken Chop Salad.
Hmm. 300gms of chicken for five people? It was the best part of the meal and there quite simply wasn’t enough. The kids weren’t interested at all so I did the usual ‘If you don’t eat your dinner you can head off to bed hungry.’ Well they did, and they didn’t ask for anything else. Yikes. There’s a first time for everything right?

Night #4 – Goats cheese, broccoli and pea pasta.
I have to admit, the ‘optional’ ¼ glass of wine’ in the recipe stayed in my glass and out of the pan. I was probably more sceptical about this meal than any of the others. It just sounded plain. Cheese, broccoli, peas and pasta. Really?! No bacon, chicken, stock powder, nothing.
I will now eat my words, as well as the entire recipe of pasta. What a beautiful dish! I’d never eaten goat’s cheese before and I am absolutely in love. This was a hit with the kids too. Dad wasn’t home for dinner, thank goodness, and his share was quickly gobbled up. The broccoli was still fresh (it would usually have gone soft and droopy by now!) and there is still some of the pasta packet in the cupboard. Watch this space, I will attempt it again!

Night #5 – Lamb Rice Paper Rolls with Noodles
Hmm. This recipe said it was gluten free if you omitted the egg noodles… yet the rice paper was made with ½ rice and ½ wheat flour. We made a salad instead as Dad was home for dinner this night. The sauce was lovely – I made several batches and turned it into a dressing for our salad and it was just beautiful! I had egg noodles through my salad and the kids enjoyed sucking them up and flicking the dressing everywhere, the lamb was tender and pink (nice job on the cooking Dad!) and the meal went down a treat.

Fresh produce, beautiful meat, pre-determined recipes (open for substitutions and alterations) and the goods delivered to your door. What more could you ask for?! My family tried food they hadn’t had before, and things I wouldn’t have cooked so we are voting My Family Food Bag gets the thumbs up.

Mum Cool: Mocka Leni Mag Rack Review

At Mums on Top we love a good magazine.  In fact we have rather a large stash of very high quality magazines in our office for a variety of purposes ranging from intensive research to light stress-relief and last but not least, Mocka - Leni Mag Rack Review Imagefor propping up laptops to an ergonomically correct height.  Sadly however, there is only so much paper-based hoarding that one office of five females can manage before it becomes unsightly clutter (yes, we do all suffer from varying levels of self-confessed OCD).

You can imagine our excitement when our super special friends at Mocka sent us an extraordinary Leni Mag Rack to review – and along with that came the realisation that we could continue our magazine addiction in style.  Oh lucky day!

The Leni Mag Rack is a stunning piece of furniture.  Leni (as we fondly refer to her) is made from beech ply-wood and stands 35cm high by 39cm wide.  Leni has a very clever design which allows you to stack things on her, under her and beside her and better still – she doesn’t mind one bit – even if those things happen to be your feet at the end of a particularly exhausting morning…and that was just making it to the office.

Your imagination is the only restriction on the limitless ways the exceptionally stylish yet functional Leni Mag Rack from Mocka can best be utilised in your office or home.  Go on, we know you want one.

Liz’s Review of the BISSELL Powerfresh Steam Mop

Liz's BISSELL ReviewI was so excited when my BISSELL Powerfresh Steam Mop arrived this morning! I was straight onto opening much like a child on Christmas morning. The first thing I noticed was how light the box was – the second was how small the box was, cue panic of “oh gosh hope I don’t have to spend forever putting it together!” I opened the box and was greeted by a small instruction booklet, it was easy to read and follow. I was surprised to find I only had to clip the bottom and middle pieces together, then insert the handle and fasten one screw – it took me literally 1 minute to put it together, and then another 30 seconds to take out, fill and replace the water cylinder. So less than 3 minutes after pulling the Powerfresh Mop out of the box I was standing in my kitchen using it.

I mop (note old fashion sponge mop and a bucket of hot soapy water) my floors on a regular basis, although they never really seem clean – and half the time the kids manage to walk all over them before they are dried fully so I end up with footprints. So while I was expecting the Powerfresh Steam Mop to make a bit of a difference I didn’t really expect what I saw, the mircoban mop pad that had been white was now a greyish black colour and my floor was clearly a different colour to the area I hadn’t done. I then realised I had started at the wrong end of the kitchen and needed to walk over my newly cleaned floor to get to the other side to clean that also, so over I tip toed expecting a damp floor but again the bissell powerfresh mop surprised me as the floor was warm but didn’t feel at all damp!

The other great thing about the Powerfresh Steam Mop is the carpet glider, using this you are able to refresh your carpets. Having three little ones in my house means that my carpets were well in need of refreshing! Just like using the Powerfresh Steam Mop on hard floors it was so easy to use it with the carpet glider! All I had to do was pop the Powerfresh Mop into the carpet glider and I was away – again great results, carpets weren’t left wet and the tiny pieces of dried on playdough/food/gosh knows what all seemed to loosen and came away completely when I ran the vacuum over the area! Jenny & Noah & Isabelle’s Review: LEGO® Friends Olivia’s Beach Buggy Set

Lego Review - NoahRecently we were very excited to be selected to review the LEGO® Friends Olivia’s Beach Buggy set . And when I say ‘we’ you know I really mean Noah and Isabelle … but there’s nothing wrong with a grown woman being a bit excited about a toy, is there? I’m sure you, like me have heaps of great childhood memories involving LEGO? Pouring all those pieces out on the floor, squabbling over your favourite bits, playing for hours and begging Mum and Dad to keep your latest ‘creation’ out on display…you know what I mean?

Noah and Isabelle already love DUPLO (as evidenced here), so I knew they would love LEGO even more. Especially Noah with his creative need to build and create (something he gets from his architect father!) And I was not wrong!

The LEGO® Friends Olivia’s Beach Buggy set that we received includes:

  • Olivia mini-doll figure
  • Purple Beach Buggy with a wrench and real rubber tires
  • Accessories including a surfboard, coconut tree and a beach stand with an ice block and fruit (pineapple, lime, orange and banana) Continue reading →

Leave us a comment below telling us one of your memories of LEGO from when you were little – whether it be that you threw the biggest tantrum of your life because your poor mum wasn’t able to build the LEGO castle of your imaginings or that you poor dad had to painstakingly paint a green dot on each individual piece of your LEGO so that you wouldn’t fight with your brother over whose LEGO belonged to whom.

Make sure you share your story by 9am Monday the 26th of August and we will notify the lucky reviewer later that day.

We would love the review (complete with your photos) to be up and running on our blog by the first week of September.

Susie’s Review of the BISSELL AirRAM

Bissell AirramOh! The excitement when I opened my new Bissell Air Ram vacuum! It is very simple to put together and as soon as I had charged the battery we were ready to go. The battery takes around 4 hours to charge from empty and gives you approximately half an hour worth of power. However my home only takes around 15 minutes to whip around and the battery holds its power really well. So I have found that I am getting 3 vacuuming sessions on one charge.
The handle is excellent and makes the Air Ram very easy to maneuver. The amount of swivel in the head ensures that you can glide around table legs and under the couch without much effort at all. Sometimes when you watch the advertising for products like this you see how easily the actor sashays around looking like she is totally enjoying a household chore…..with the Air Ram I actually felt like that actor. Some of the wondrous and plentiful things that we managed to inhale with this vacuum were crushed Pringles from both wooden floorboards and a childs playmat; popcorn, sand!!! (I know! Sand right out of the cracks in the floorboards!); and it passed the all important ‘removal of glitter from car mats’ test – many thanks to my friend who sent a parcel filled with glitter and sequins for my daughter and I, without thinking, allowed it to be opened in the car!). Mum Cool: Motorolla Baby Monitor Review

Baby Monitor I tried the Motorolla MBP36 Digital Wireless Video Baby Monitor and think its great, out of the box it was a very easy monitor to unpack and setup, simply put the camera in the spot you’d like it and turn the base station on. The 3.5 inch diagonal screen is large and easy to view,it has some great features (zoom, pan, tilt). The colour is Crystal clear and the battery life is decent. I personally love that is shows you the temperature of the babies room especially good for summer weather.
The infrared night vision is true night vision not just a light on the monitor claiming it is night vision like other baby monitors.  You can clearly hear and see your baby with the added option of speaking through the microphone on the parents unit to communicate with your baby without being in the room with them, great 2 way capability.  Another great feature of this monitor is the 5 lullabies loaded onto the parents unit to play in the baby’s room. Mum Cool: Buggy Board Review

Hello lovely readers at Mums on Top.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to trial the Lascal Buggy Board mini!
We were so excited to be chosen. We had been considering whether or not to get one for a few weeks (after a failed walk that resulted in pushing a 15kg little madam up hill in the pushchair whilst carrying her older sister who refused to take a turn in the pushchair!)
 Buggy Board Review
The buggy board is a great size, nice and compact but perfect for Miss nearly 4. Fitting it was actually quite simple, although I did have to read the instructions a couple of times to be sure (that may have been due to the time of night!). It clips into the fittings really easily and detaches even more easily! And all the adjustments are really simple to make. We didn’t cut off all the excess strap from the fittings in case we want to fit it to a different buggy but I was pleased to see that you can in fact buy additional connection kits from Baby City.
